But this wasn't always my story...
I spent 28 years either being on a diet or off a diet. I lost (and gained) a total of 600 pounds.
I was addicted to diet foods, low fat, low calorie, artificial sweeteners and diet soda. I hated my
body, would never even dream of a bikini, except on someone else. I became at expert a dressing to
disguise my weight fluctuations.

I'm going to share my love story.
It's the story about how I fell in love with myself.
I was in a marriage feeling unworthy, powerless, unfulfilled and just plain lonely. I was desperate
and looking for love - in all the wrong places - mainly the refrigerator. Can you relate to this?

My only relief was in food... Yes, that's right!, in my jar of peanut butter. I loved my peanut butter, so much that
I could and would eat a whole jar at one sitting. I expected it to fill my loneliness and love me back but instead I
got bloated, fat, disgusted and hated myself even more. This yoyo dieting continued for years of eating myself into
extreme hatred and then dieting back in extreme hatred. After my second marriage ended in divorce, I was totally at
rock bottom. I was lonely, sad, frustrated and I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I was desperate to feel better
and most importantly didn't want my then approaching teenage daughter watching me and following in my footsteps. My
ahah moment came when I was given a questionnaire to fill out and it asked me to list 10 things that I LOVED ABOUT
MYSELF. Are you kidding? I couldn't put down one thing!! I didn't have one thing that I loved about me! I said, HOLD
ON, Is this how I am gonna live my life??? If I don't love myself, how can I expect anyone else to love me? I knew
I had to change, but I had tried so many times before. How could I make this time different? I needed to find someone
who was in love with their food, their body and their life that I could model myself after...and sure enough I didn't
have to look very far. I found the answers in my grandmother who was filled with energy, vitality and health at 85.
I noticed that:
- She never eats processed foods
- She eats her homegrown vegetables/organic, local, and seasonal
- She is married to her sweetheart for 65 years - (they are kind to each other)
- She cooks 99% of her meals at home
- She doesn't diet or count calories or step on a scale
- She loves what she does and does what she loves
- She shares her homemade food and knitted wear with everyone she loves
- She cleans her own home and takes daily walks
- She keeps Sundays for worship, rest and family
- Her food is filled with Vitamin L (Love)
- She has a glass of homemade wine with dinner every night
- She lives with simplicity and gratitude

These are the 12 things I noticed about her. I made a commitment to start living these things
and when I did I realized that each one of these things was about LOVING yourself.

No one switches from a jar of peanut butter, bags of Doritos, boxes of cookies to whole, unprocessed
foods without first having enough love for themselves to make the switch. I focused on my FOOD first.
I got off my diet. When my food changed, everything changed. Eating whole nutritious foods and eliminating
processed diet foods allowed me to feel physically better and see things more clearly in my life.
I developed a system to help myself
